In addition to causing that “creepy crawly feeling,” an outbreak of spongy moth caterpillars over the past couple weeks has created a nuisance for residents of Park Ridge and likely other communities.

Named sod webworm moths, snout moths or lawn moths, they make up a group of insects that in their caterpillar form have a taste for grass and in their adult form a penchant for annoyance and ambush.
