During his sentencing on Tuesday, Aleim Alavez, 25, offered an apology to the families of the four men he admitted to killing, after a DUI crash on State Route 163 last year. The four victims were refugees from Turkey and their families, still grieving, were watching the sentencing via Microsoft Teams from overseas. At the time of the crash in July 2024, prosecutors say Alavez was driving 108 miles per hour, with the gas pedal floored and no attempt to brake before crashing into a Toyota Prius.
