Jess has tactile defensiveness, a form of sensory processing disorder. This means she’s more sensitive to the sense of touch. Her whole life, she has struggled with fur. Defensiveness is a symptom that is often found in children with autism. Common signs include frequent mouthing of non-food objects, strong preference or aversion to food with specific textures and these children may prefer to touch others rather than being touched.
